Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wendell Johns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ray Rice! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rice blocks a head kick by Johns.
Rice tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Rice rushes Johns and presses him up against the cage. Johns is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rice can't fight it off and eventually Johns manages to take the fight to the floor. Rice looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Rice is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Johns tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rice just stands there and leans against the cage. Rice goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johns prevents it.
Johns trying to control the position but instead, Rice has worked for underhooks and has pushed Johns into the cage. Johns is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rice to keep the fight standing. Rice manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round. Johns drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rice gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wendell Johns. That's going to take a lot out of him. Johns looking to stall.
Johns has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rice regains guard immediately. Rice wriggles free and stands up. Rice shoots in and drives through. Johns sprawls well. Rice will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Johns appears to be looking for a big counter. Rice dives in and grabs Johns's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johns pushes down on Rice's head and hops out. Rice shoots in for a double leg but Johns sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Johns throws a head kick that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rice shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johns sprawls well. Johns wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rice gets slowly back to his feet. Rice fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Johns shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rice as he jumps to the side. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rice misses with a takedown attempt and Johns holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Rice is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Johns holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Johns gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Rice is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Johns presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Rice is looking to take this one to the mat. Rice looks winded! Johns prevents the takedown attempt.
Johns is stalling here.
Johns goes for a takedown attempt but Rice pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rice shoots in and drives through. Johns sprawls well. Rice misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Rice blocks the leg kick.

Johns drives through and clinches with Rice against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johns is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rice to keep the fight standing. Johns stalling in the clinch but Rice improves position. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Rice. Johns tries to land a knee to the head but Rice blocks with his arms.
Johns has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rice is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Rice working some nice short punches in the clinch. Rice pulls guard successfully.
Johns will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Johns loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rice has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Johns off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. This has been an exciting period of action! Johns tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rice manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rice gets in close and instigates a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ray Rice dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Rice cracks Johns with a right hand to the side of the head. Johns walks into a stiff left hand from Rice. Rice looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Rice tries to clinch up but Johns circles away and keeps his distance. Johns throws a head kick but Rice moves out of range.
Rice moves into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rice breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rice rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johns moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Rice closes the distance and clinches. Johns swings wildly with an uppercut but Rice uses good head movement to avoid it. Johns is looking for a takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johns slowing the pace effectively. Good body shot from Rice.
A battle for position here, against the cage. Rice looking for a takedown. Rice jumps into guard, dragging Johns to the mat.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Rice throws his legs up looking for a submission but Johns uses it to pass to side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johns sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Rice is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Johns throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Rice is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Rice tries to get to full guard but Johns has control of the leg. Johns is nestled in close to Rice, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Johns has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Johns missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rice trying to hold on to Johns's head to control him but Johns postures up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Rice manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Rice looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Rice escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johns gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Rice is breathing heavily. Johns working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Johns postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Rice has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Johns wanted to stand there but Rice had control of the position. Rice should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Johns got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rice has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johns has managed to get both his arms back between Rice's legs - danger averted.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rice tries to clinch but Johns moves out of range. Rice drives through and clinches with Johns against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Johns tries to score a body lock takedown but Rice shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Johns gets control of Rice's arms and successfully pulls guard. Johns will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Rice preventing the sweep. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ray Rice showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Rice clinches up against the cage. Johns is pressed up against the cage. Rice has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Johns down to the mat. Johns avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Rice fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Rice shoots in but Johns avoids the takedown attempt easily. Wendell Johns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ray Rice. Johns shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rice pinned against the cage. Rice gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rice shoots in but no luck this time. Rice takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Rice closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johns circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rice fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johns, pushing him back against the cage. Rice tries to pull guard but Johns holds him up against the cage and eventually Rice drops back down to his feet.
Johns changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rice fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Johns throws a leg kick but Rice checks it. Rice misses with a takedown attempt and Johns moves into the clinch. Johns is trying to drag Rice to the mat but Rice just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Rice is trying to pull guard but Johns turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Johns taking a breather. Rice tries to score a body lock takedown but Johns shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johns has Rice pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rice manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Rice lands on the inside with an uppercut. Johns fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Rice stalling in the clinch but Johns improves position. Johns manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Johns takes a shot to the head. Rice manages to break the clinch.
Ray Rice seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Johns tries to close the distance and clinch but Rice swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Rice will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Rice misses with a double jab
and Johns counters with a three punch combo that has Rice backing up. Rice nods at Johns to acknowledge the strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johns throws a sloppy head kick and Rice moves out of range easily. Johns tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rice swats him away and circles back towards the center. Johns pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rice shoots in but no luck this time. Johns is looking for a counter combo. Rice has a takedown stuffed. Johns misses with the combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johns forces Rice back against the cage and clinches. Rice jumps guard but Johns turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Johns swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Rice tries to pull guard but Johns won't allow it.
Johns is trying to maintain a safe position but Rice gets an underhook and turns Johns into the cage. Johns looking to stall.
Maybe Johns would be better served going for some more strikes rather than trying to control so much. Rice lands a shoulder strike. Rice breaks the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rice clinches up with Johns and pushes him back against the cage. Johns tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Wendell Johns has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ray Rice is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Johns is trying to maintain a safe position but Rice gets an underhook and turns Johns into the cage.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wendell Johns. I think Rice has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
