Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Logan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Santiago Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Logan paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Sanchez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Sanchez moves into the clinch successfully.
Sanchez is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Logan to keep the fight standing. Logan lands a left hand that snaps the head of Sanchez backwards. A short right from Logan. Logan scores with a shot to the side of Sanchez's head. I was talking to Logan's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Logan is trying to push Sanchez away but Sanchez has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. A right hand to the body from Logan.
Logan throws an elbow but it misses.
Logan lands with a short shot to the head. Logan can't break the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Logan lands an uppercut. Sanchez avoids the elbow strike from Logan, against the cage.
Logan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
That's one minute gone in the round. Logan tries a body shot but Sanchez blocks it.
Sanchez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Sanchez has eaten all the pies! Logan misses the jab. Sanchez takes a swing at Logan's ribcage but misses. Logan misses the shot to the body. A combination from Sanchez does no damage. Logan thuds his right hand into Sanchez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Logan with a nice cross. Logan lands a big right hand that sends Sanchez crashing to the mat! Logan stays standing though and waves Sanchez back to his feet!
Sanchez is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Logan lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Sanchez head around and knocks him out cold! Logan hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Richard Logan!
