PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryce Fellows (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Mahoney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alexander Mahoney will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bryce Fellows!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Mahoney!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fellows shoots in and gets a takedown into Mahoney's guard.

Mahoney has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Fellows is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Mahoney is looking to break free of the clinch but Fellows has double underhooks.

Fellows lands a takedown into guard.
Fellows stopping the sweep attempt from Mahoney.
Fellows trying to control but Mahoney is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fellows really is a fat lump.

Mahoney has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fellows can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mahoney keeping moving, preventing Fellows from controlling successfully.

Fellows not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mahoney drives through with a takedown into Fellows's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Mahoney has hold of Fellows's hands but Fellows slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well, if Fellows is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Fellows takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Fellows trying to pass the guard but Mahoney defending well.

Mahoney is defending against the submission attempts here by Fellows.

Fellows stands up and beckons Mahoney to join him on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mahoney enables Fellows to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mahoney manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Fellows would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mahoney looking to control.
Fellows might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Fellows not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Fellows wanted to stand there but Mahoney had control of the position.

Fellows gets to his feet. Mahoney looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fellows tries to clinch but Mahoney moves away

and Mahoney counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mahoney slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Fellows thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bryce Fellows will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Fellows thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Fellows is taking a breather. Mahoney says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Fellows lands strikes from half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fellows tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mahoney knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Fellows throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Mahoney is not content to let Fellows control the position.

Fellows is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Fellows wants to pass to mount but Mahoney is defending the position.

Fellows decides to stand up.
Fellows shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mahoney pinned against the cage. Mahoney gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mahoney shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Fellows is trying to defend but Mahoney finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Fellows kicks Mahoney off and gets back to his feet.

Mahoney closes the distance and clinches.

Fellows pulls Mahoney into guard.

Fellows manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Fellows slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Fellows stands up from Mahoney's guard - Fellows perhaps looking for a knockout.
Bryce Fellows is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Fellows tries to sprawl but Mahoney drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Fellows makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mahoney wants to sweep but no luck.

Fellows wants to control from the top but Mahoney keeps moving.
Mahoney avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Fellows is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Fellows trying to control the position from guard on top but Mahoney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Mahoney feints and as Fellows raises his hands in defense, Mahoney changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fellows is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mahoney dives into side control.

Mahoney really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fellows. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fellows is looking for a sweep.
Mahoney wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fellows keeps working.
Fellows is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mahoney off and has taken his back!

Fellows lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Mahoney.

Fellows patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fellows is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Fellows gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Fellows gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Fellows apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Fellows is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mahoney can do to turn this around?

Fellows tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mahoney swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fellows shoots in but no luck this time.
Mahoney throws a big counter head kick but Fellows avoids it with no problem.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fellows blocks a head kick by Mahoney.

Mahoney tries to sprawl but Fellows drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Fellows seems to be working for a kimura but Mahoney defends the submission attempt.
Fellows not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Fellows is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Fellows is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mahoney is just riding it out for now. Fellows eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Fellows is keen to just control but Mahoney is a slippery customer.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fellows, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
