Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Orville Weiss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hwai Ja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hwai Ja will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Orville Weiss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hwai Ja!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weiss chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Ja can pounce on him.
Nice body kick from Ja.

Ja gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ja gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Weiss.

Ja breaks from the clinch.

Weiss moves into range and clinches up with Ja.
Weiss is trying to pull guard but Ja turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Ja escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ja throws a sloppy head kick

so Weiss counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Weiss postures up in Ja's guard and throws a big left but Ja blocks it.
Weiss trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Weiss postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ja wants to stand up but Weiss is controlling him.

Weiss throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ja works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Weiss won't allow Ja to get back to his feet.
Weiss with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Ja wants to get back to his feet but Weiss is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Weiss trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Weiss lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Ja wants to get back to his feet but Weiss passes into half guard.
Weiss working the head and body with strikes.
Weiss wants to control but Ja is keeping him busy.
Ja is looking to escape.

Weiss scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Weiss trying to control from half guard but Ja is working away.
Weiss perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Ja kicks off Weiss and gets to his feet.
Ja throws a wild body kick that Weiss sees coming a mile off.

Weiss rushes Ja and presses him up against the cage.
Weiss throws an elbow that misses.
Weiss is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Weiss misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ja.
Ja trying to stall but Weiss improves his position.
Stalling in the clinch from Weiss.
Weiss controlling the action here for a moment.

Weiss is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Orville Weiss. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Weiss pressing his opponent against the cage.
Weiss looking to throw knees to the head but Ja is blocking nicely.
Ja is trying to break the clinch but Weiss has him pressed against the cage.
Ja is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Weiss trying to control the position but instead, Ja has worked for underhooks and has pushed Weiss into the cage.
Weiss jumps guard but Ja stands there with Weiss around his waist. Weiss gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Weiss has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ja is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Ja doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Ja lands a hook to the side of the head.

Ja escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Weiss on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Ja fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Weiss, pushing him back against the cage.
Weiss avoiding damage.

Ja breaks the clinch.
Ja throws a body shot but no joy.
Sloppy strikes from Ja. Those never looked like landing.

Weiss has closed the distance and engaged Ja in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Hwai Ja will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ja scoring well with a low kick there.
Ja throws a low kick but it's checked well by Weiss.
Ja throws out a leg kick but Weiss moves out of range and Ja only half commits.
Weiss blocks a head kick by Ja.
A slapping body kick lands there for Ja.
Ja tries to clinch

and Weiss counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Weiss with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Weiss scoring with strikes to the body and head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Weiss throwing shots but Ja is blocking nicely.
Ja wants to get back to his feet.

Ja manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Weiss keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Ja tightens his grip and picks Weiss up, before dumping him to the ground. Weiss manages to land in guard.

Weiss manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Ja is breathing heavily.
Weiss has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Weiss stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Weiss fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ja gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Weiss.
Weiss pushes off an throws an elbow but Ja leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Ja prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Orville Weiss. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Weiss on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Ja manages to break the clinch.

Weiss closes the distance and pushes Ja back into the cage.
Weiss taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Weiss wants to take the fight to the mat but Ja manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Weiss tries to land a knee to the head but Ja blocks with his arms.

Ja is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Weiss can't fight it off and eventually Ja manages to take the fight to the floor. Weiss looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Weiss has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ja off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ja clinches.
Weiss could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ja works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Weiss is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ja is looking to stand up but Weiss won't let him.

Weiss pushes Ja off and scrambles back to his feet.
Hwai Ja is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ja tries a head kick but it misses.
Weiss lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Ja falls off balance throwing a combination

and Weiss counters with a shoot takedown. Ja fights it but they end up in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Weiss with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Weiss scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Weiss won't allow Ja to get back to his feet.
Weiss content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Ja is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Weiss dives into side control.
Weiss landing a few strikes.
Ja wants to get back to his feet but Weiss is dominant here and he's now got Ja's back!
Weiss throwing damaging strikes from the back! Ja could be in trouble here!

Weiss is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Ja taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Weiss.
