Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akira Akiyama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Petr Jakovlev! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Akiyama rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jakovlev moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Jakovlev scores with a sloppy right hand. Akiyama should have avoided that one.
It looks like Akira Akiyama has been cut. Jakovlev fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Akiyama to the ground. Jakovlev is now in Akiyama's guard. Jakovlev is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Jakovlev scoring with punches to the head and body. Akiyama preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jakovlev controls from within his opponent's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Akiyama working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jakovlev. Jakovlev makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jakovlev postures up and lands a big shot to Akiyama's brow. Jakovlev looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Jakovlev postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Jakovlev throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Jakovlev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Jakovlev in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Jakovlev lands a couple of elbows. Jakovlev drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jakovlev jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Akiyama avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jakovlev throwing strikes from guard but Akiyama blocks nicely. Akiyama knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jakovlev on the ground. Jakovlev throws a big elbow that misses. Jakovlev engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Jakovlev postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Jakovlev works over Akiyama with some ground and pound from guard. Jakovlev slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Jakovlev pushes down on Akiyama's leg and manages to get into half guard. Akiyama on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jakovlev trying to control the pace. Jakovlev not landing any meaningful shots this time. Jakovlev maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Akiyama could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Jakovlev has cracked it and Akiyama is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Jakovlev!

Petr Jakovlev decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
