PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Harry Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Speedy Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Harry Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Speedy Light!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Light defends it nicely.

Slater rushes Light and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Light trying to stall but Slater improves his position.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Slater.
Slater prevents Light from breaking the clinch.

Slater has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Light regains guard immediately.
Light wants to get back to his feet but Slater is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slater slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Slater working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Light being controlled here, momentarily.
Light keeping full guard, as Slater tries to pass.
Slater sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Slater working some strikes from top position.
Slater's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Slater has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Slater throws a big elbow that misses.
Light really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Slater. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Slater keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Light's head.
Light is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Light can do anything to dispel that myth.
Slater is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A punch combination from Light misses.

Slater drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Slater is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slater throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Slater tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Light managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Slater.

Slater is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Light knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Light stops Slater from passing to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Slater is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Light is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Slater controls the position.
Slater tries to advance to mount but can't.
Light is trying to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slater is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Light will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harry Slater dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Slater ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Light moves away.
It seemed like Light was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Light throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Slater stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Slater fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Harry Slater is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Slater lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Light at a distance.
Slater rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Light to counter with a crisp jab.
Slater is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Light can do to turn this around?
Slater misses with a left hand
and Light counters with a nice uppercut.
A combination from Light does no damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slater avoids the body shot from Light.
Slater dives in and grabs Light's left leg, looking for a takedown. Light pushes down on Slater's head and hops out.

Slater forces Light back against the cage and clinches.
Slater lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Light tries a body shot but Slater blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slater lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Light backwards.
Light misses with a body punch.
Still in the clinch, Slater scores with a nice short uppercut.
Light tries to break the clinch but Slater is controlling the position.
Slater working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Slater has picked Light up - he's going for a ride! Slater dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Light makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Light lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Slater circles away quickly and effectively.

Slater rushes Light and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A body shot lands from Slater.
Light misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Light lands a body punch.
Light tries to work over Slater's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Slater has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Light clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Slater lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Slater has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Light has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Light is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Slater is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Light knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Light for a finish.
Light is taking damage to the body and head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slater really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Light.
Slater seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Light for as long as he can get away with.
Light is covering up but some of the strikes from Slater are getting through and doing damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Slater has his arm under Light's chin here. Game over son! Slater squeezes tightly and Light is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Harry Slater!
Harry Slater decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
