Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodney Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik Thorvaldson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rodney Jackson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Erik Thorvaldson! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Dirk Anderson and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
It looks like Erik Thorvaldson has been cut. Erik Thorvaldson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thorvaldson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thorvaldson throws a poor cross that misses
and Jackson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Jackson moves out of range as Thorvaldson strikes. Jackson throwing a counter right hand but Thorvaldson manages to avoid it. Jackson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Jackson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Thorvaldson looks like he wants to counter punch here. Thorvaldson takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Thorvaldson throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Thorvaldson looks to throw the jab but Jackson is out of range. Thorvaldson throws a hook but Jackson avoids it easily. Thorvaldson has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Jackson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Thorvaldson tests Jackson's chin there with a solid looking shot. Thorvaldson fails to land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson cracks Thorvaldson with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Jackson throws a combination that misses and Thorvaldson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Thorvaldson throws a poor cross that misses
and Jackson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Thorvaldson connects with a nice looking jab.

Jackson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Thorvaldson takes a swing at Jackson's ribcage but misses. Jackson loads up on a big right hand but Thorvaldson slips the punch. Thorvaldson throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Jackson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Jackson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Thorvaldson lands with a right hand. We've been told by Jackson's head coaches at Highland Brawl Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Thorvaldson lands with a shot to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thorvaldson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jackson at a distance.

Jackson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Jackson throws a right and a left that both miss. Thorvaldson blocks a jab. Thorvaldson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jackson circles away quickly and effectively. Jackson throwing a counter right hand but Thorvaldson manages to avoid it. Jackson throws a lazy head kick and Thorvaldson counters with a lovely shot to the body. Jackson throws a shot to the body.

Jackson lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Jackson just misses with a punch to the body.
Thorvaldson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jackson moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Decent striking displayed by Jackson there. Thorvaldson misses with a right hand and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Thorvaldson scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Jackson throws a body punch but Thorvaldson moves out of range. Thorvaldson tries to clinch but Jackson moves out of range. Thorvaldson throws a lazy uppercut
and Jackson counters with a three punch combo that has Thorvaldson backing up. Thorvaldson nods at Jackson to acknowledge the strikes. A big right from Thorvaldson misses. Jackson is looking to counter punch. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A punch lands to the side of Jackson 's head but he takes it in his stride.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jackson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thorvaldson was well out of range. Poor timing from Jackson. Jackson takes a shot right to the bread basket. Thorvaldson takes a swing at Jackson's ribcage but misses. Jackson throws a head kick but Thorvaldson moves out of range.
Thorvaldson thows a left - swing and a miss! A looping hook to the body misses from Thorvaldson. Jackson does a little dance to reset his feet. Jackson is looking to counter punch. Thorvaldson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jackson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. A combination from Thorvaldson does no damage. A little feinted left hand from Jackson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Thorvaldson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jackson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Thorvaldson. Thorvaldson cracks Jackson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Erik Thorvaldson will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Erik Thorvaldson's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jackson throws a counter high kick but Thorvaldson was just alert enough to avoid it. Jackson misses with an uppercut. Thorvaldson saw that one coming. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Thorvaldson! But no joy. Erik Thorvaldson seems to be getting the better of the standup. Thorvaldson misses with a straight right. Jackson throws an off balance right hand
letting Thorvaldson counter with a right hand. Jackson pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Jackson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Thorvaldson thows a left - swing and a miss! Thorvaldson darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Jackson is rocked! Jackson misses the jab. Oh Jackson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Jackson explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Thorvaldson fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Jackson to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Jackson looks to clinch but Thorvaldson throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Jackson taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Erik Thorvaldson! Erik Thorvaldson is the new middleweight champion! In his post fight interview, Erik Thorvaldson started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
