PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juuka Rantamakki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell has chosen It's Dark and Hell Is Hot as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Juuka Rantamakki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 44 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rantamakki rushes Liddell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Liddell drags the fight down to the ground.
Liddell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Liddell wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Liddell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rantamakki on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rantamakki tries to get out of the position.
Rantamakki is looking to control Liddell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rantamakki avoid being mounted?
Rantamakki is looking to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Liddell is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Rantamakki is trying to control but Liddell passes into side control!
Liddell content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Rantamakki is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rantamakki is looking for a sweep.

Liddell decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Liddell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rantamakki pinned against the cage. Rantamakki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Liddell fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Rantamakki is out of range.

Rantamakki moves into the clinch.
Rantamakki is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rantamakki misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Rantamakki is trying to pull guard but Liddell has him pressed against the cage.
Liddell connects with a knee to the head.
Liddell looking to throw knees to the head but Rantamakki is blocking nicely.
Rantamakki is trying to break the clinch but Liddell has him pressed against the cage.
Come on Liddell - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Rantamakki jumps guard but Liddell turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juuka Rantamakki. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Liddell has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rantamakki is trying to keep an underhook but Liddell manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Rantamakki is in trouble now - Liddell has advanced to mount!
Liddell sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
It looks like Liddell might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Liddell won't let Rantamakki get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Liddell tries a head kick but it misses.
Liddell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rantamakki has Liddell up against the cage in a clinch.
Rantamakki is trying to pull guard but Liddell has him pressed against the cage.
Liddell stops a takedown attempt from Rantamakki.
Rantamakki takes a knee right on the jaw!
Rantamakki is working for takedown but Liddell is calmly controlling the position for now.

Rantamakki tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Liddell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Liddell lands a nice leg kick that just misses Rantamakki's sensitive parts.

Liddell clinches.
Rantamakki trying to control the position but instead, Liddell has worked for underhooks and has pushed Rantamakki into the cage.

Rantamakki pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rantamakki slips a jab and a cross from Liddell.
Rantamakki scores with a jab to the jaw.


It looks like Chuck Liddell has been cut.
Juuka Rantamakki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice sprawl there from Liddell as Rantamakki shoots in.
Juuka Rantamakki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rantamakki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Rantamakki has taken the fight to the clinch.
Liddell throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rantamakki blocks it with crossed arms.
Rantamakki has had enough of the clinch but Liddell keeps him there for the moment.
Liddell misses with some punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rantamakki wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rantamakki is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Rantamakki's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Rantamakki jumps guard but Liddell stands there with Rantamakki around his waist. Rantamakki gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rantamakki stalling in the clinch but Liddell improves position.
Liddell controlling the action here for a moment.
Rantamakki is trying to break free.

Rantamakki tries to stall but Liddell uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Rantamakki trying to stall but Liddell improves his position.
Rantamakki seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Liddell is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.
Liddell misses with a knee strike.
Rantamakki is looking for a takedown.
Liddell taking a breather.
Come on Liddell - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Rantamakki tries to pull guard but Liddell holds him up against the cage and eventually Rantamakki drops back down to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Liddell is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Rantamakki throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Liddell tries a knee to the head but Rantamakki blocks it.
Liddell misses with a knee to the head.
Rantamakki trying to land knees to the body.
Rantamakki goes for a takedown attempt but Liddell pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Liddell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rantamakki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Liddell on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Liddell uses his free foot to push down on Rantamakki's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rantamakki.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Rantamakki closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Liddell misses with a hook from the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Liddell as Rantamakki tries to tie him up.
Liddell lands a nice knee to the body.
Liddell has Rantamakki pressed against the cage, preventing Rantamakki from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Rantamakki is trying to pull guard but Liddell turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Liddell managing to control the position.

Rantamakki looking to improve position, pressing down on Liddell's thigh with his hand. Liddell seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Rantamakki paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Rantamakki's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Liddell picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
