Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Cavaliers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrew Weffart! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cavaliers misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Weffart fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Weffart misses with a head kick.
Cavaliers throws a big counter combination but Weffart scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Weffart throws a right and a left that both miss. Cavaliers fires out a quick counter leg kick but Weffart just manages to avoid it. Cavaliers pushes Weffart up against the cage in a clinch. Weffart is trying to drag Cavaliers to the mat but Cavaliers just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Weffart tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Weffart is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Cavaliers is defending well. Marcelo Cavaliers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Weffart. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Weffart drags the fight down to the ground.
Weffart striking off his back but it's not causing Cavaliers any problems. Cavaliers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Weffart on the ground. Weffart keeping moving, preventing Cavaliers from controlling successfully. Cavaliers preventing the sweep.

Cavaliers trying to control the position from guard on top but Weffart is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cavaliers might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Weffart wants to stand up but Cavaliers is controlling him. Cavaliers gets to his feet. Weffart looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Weffart rushes Cavaliers and presses him up against the cage. Weffart has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cavaliers uses from the top position. Weffart is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cavaliers looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Cavaliers trying to control but Weffart is working from the bottom. Weffart is adopting a defensive guard. Weffart is trying to keep Cavaliers in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cavaliers passes easily into side control. Nice work. Sloppy strikes there by Cavaliers. Cavaliers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Weffart is not content to let Cavaliers control the position. Cavaliers is trying to ground and pound but Weffart uses the momentary lack of control by Cavaliers to regain half guard. Cavaliers thows a huge punch but Weffart dodges it nicely.
Weffart kicks Cavaliers off and gets back to his feet. Andrew Weffart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cavaliers tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cavaliers changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Weffart tries to avoid it but Cavaliers manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Weffart to the ground. Weffart escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Weffart lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Weffart bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Cavaliers is looking for a sweep. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Weffart tries for a kimura but Cavaliers is defending well. Cavaliers is trying to work for a sweep but Weffart has mounted him! Cavaliers is in all sorts of trouble here.
Weffart controlling the position easily from mount. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Weffart putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andrew Weffart dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Weffart buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Cavaliers manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Weffart on his heels. He'll look to pass Weffart's guard now, I'm sure. Cavaliers stopping the sweep attempt from Weffart. Weffart pulls Cavaliers in close to prevent any damage. Cavaliers with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Cavaliers stands and steps away. Weffart gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Weffart dives in and scores a takedown into Cavaliers's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Weffart advances position into side control! Weffart passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Cavaliers! Cavaliers is looking to get to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Weffart takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Cavaliers can't escape the position.
Weffart looking to secure an arm triangle but Cavaliers defends it well. Cavaliers is desperately trying to improve his position but Weffart has a good base and remains in mount. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Weffart cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Cavaliers is desperately trying to improve his position but Weffart has a good base and remains in mount. Cavaliers is working hard here to advance position. Weffart trying to control but Cavaliers is having none of it. Cavaliers sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Weffart is trying to control. Cavaliers wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Weffart postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Cavaliers to stand up. Weffart keeps the fight on the outside.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Weffart falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cavaliers counters with a series of strikes. Weffart will be more careful next time no doubt.
Weffart is rocked! Cavaliers has managed to clinch.
Weffart is still on wobbly legs! Can Cavaliers finish him? Cavaliers is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Weffart can't fight it off and eventually Cavaliers manages to take the fight to the floor. Weffart looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cavaliers is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Cavaliers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Weffart for as long as he can get away with. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Weffart can't keep his opponent in guard - Cavaliers advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Cavaliers controlling the pace. Cavaliers blocks the strikes from Weffart.
Cavaliers takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Weffart wants to control but Cavaliers is keeping busy.
Cavaliers seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Weffart does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Weffart is looking for a sweep. Cavaliers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Cavaliers wants to take a breather but Weffart is having none of it. Cavaliers is looking for a kimura here.

Weffart wants to get back to his feet. Cavaliers with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Cavaliers is looking to take a break and control but Weffart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Weffart regains full guard. Nicely done. Weffart throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cavaliers controls from within his opponent's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Weffart is on top in guard.
Cavaliers wriggles free and stands up. Cavaliers keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Weffart tries to sprawl but Cavaliers drives through with a takedown into half guard. Weffart tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Cavaliers manages to move to mount!
Cavaliers fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cavaliers connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Cavaliers landing shots from mount. Cavaliers cracks Weffart with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Andrew Weffart has got the better of the ground game so far. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cavaliers cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Weffart is trying to reverse the position but instead Cavaliers has taken his back - oops! Cavaliers controlling from the back. Cavaliers is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Weffart with him. Weffart is trying to defend but Cavaliers has an arm under the chin now! Weffart grimaces and is forced to tap out!
