Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tad Travis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Reed! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reed keeps the fight on the outside. Reed jabs Travis right on the nose. Travis blinks but takes it well. Travis looks for a takedown but Reed sprawls well. Reed darts in and clinches Travis up against the cage. A head punch on the inside from Travis fails to land. Travis fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Reed. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Travis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Travis struggles to land a body shot inside as Reed controls his hands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Travis keeps control of Reed as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. A head punch blocked on the inside by Reed. Travis misses with a knee strike.
Reed has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Travis misses with an elbow over the top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Travis being controlled against the cage. Reed pulls guard effortlessly. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reed can do anything to dispel that myth. Reed keeping moving, preventing Travis from controlling successfully. Travis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Reed wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Reed has his feet on Travis's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Travis fails to land the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reed jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Reed cracks Travis with a good jab. Reed scores with a body shot.
Reed bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Travis's head.
It looks like Tad Travis has been cut. Reed scores with a crisp jab that stopped Travis in his tracks. Travis shoots in but Reed avoids the takedown attempt easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tad Travis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Travis looks for a takedown but Reed sprawls well. Reed gets in close and tags Travis with a short punch that almost sends Travis to the mat! Oh Travis is in big trouble! He turns his back on Reed, trying to create some distance but Reed rushes him, striking wildly and Travis goes down! The referee tackles Reed into the cage to end the fight! Reed is one violent man!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ryan Reed!
