0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ferrell Berbick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mubaracus Carwin! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carwin throws a leg kick that is checked and Berbick counters with a thumping low kick. Mubaracus Carwin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Carwin throws a predictable looking body shot
and Berbick counters with a slapping leg kick. Berbick with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Berbick scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Berbick lands a leg kick that knocks Carwin off balance momentarily. A looping hook to the body misses from Carwin. Berbick does a little dance to reset his feet. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Carwin has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Berbick avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Carwin misses with a wild combination.

This has been an exciting period of action! Carwin keeping full guard, as Berbick tries to pass. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Berbick preventing the sweep. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carwin can do anything to dispel that myth. Carwin is trying to keep Berbick in close.

Berbick feints and then cracks Carwin's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Carwin down. Carwin throws a combination that misses and Berbick counters with a nice kick to the body. Ferrell Berbick is winning the standup battle so far. Carwin throws the left hand but Berbick avoids the punch easily. A low kick from Carwin is predictable there and Berbick counters with a nice low kick that buckles Carwin's knee momentarily.

Carwin's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Carwin is breathing heavily. Berbick lands a nice shot that snaps Carwin's head back.

It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Now Berbick has his back to the ropes. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Berbick is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Carwin tries to score a body lock takedown but Berbick shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Berbick lands with a left to the head. Berbick is trying to break the clinch but Carwin has him pressed against the ropes. Carwin lands a hook that snaps the head of Berbick backwards. Berbick tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Carwin's elbow. Berbick misses with the head strike.

Horrible takedown attempt by Carwin or perhaps it was just good defense by Berbick, which made it look bad. Ferrell Berbick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mubaracus Carwin. Berbick thows a left - swing and a miss! Berbick fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Carwin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Berbick jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

That's better than Carwin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Carwin throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Carwin is trying to ground and pound but Berbick uses the momentary lack of control by Carwin to regain half guard. Berbick tries to roll over but Carwin keeps him under control. Carwin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

and Berbick counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. A nice inside leg kick there by Berbick. That's going to slow Carwin down.
