PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cao Cao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cao is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Cao Cao. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frankie Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cao Cao!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar dives in and grabs Cao's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cao pushes down on Edgar's head and hops out.

Edgar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cao, pushing him back against the cage.
Cao unloads a knee to the mid-section. Edgar lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
I was talking to Edgar's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Cao is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Edgar is defending well for now.
Edgar tries for a takedown but Cao manages to get underhooks.
Edgar is trying to drag Cao to the mat but Cao just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Edgar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cao fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That was a close round but I would say that Frankie Edgar will probably get the nod.

The referee asks Edgar politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Edgar prefers to stall for the moment though.

Edgar jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cao walks away with a smile on his face. Edgar gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
