Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dan Henderson ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Felipe Calderon! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henderson takes the fight into the clinch. Henderson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Calderon regains guard immediately. Calderon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Henderson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Henderson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Calderon looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Henderson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Calderon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Henderson has managed to get both his arms back between Calderon's legs - danger averted. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Henderson wants to control from the top but Calderon keeps moving. Calderon is looking for a triangle here but Henderson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Calderon gets back to half guard. Calderon moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Henderson wants to pass the guard but Calderon is keeping the position. Calderon is looking to cinch up a triangle. Henderson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Calderon's body to avoid the submission. Calderon has instead reached around Henderson 's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Calderon arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Felipe Calderon! Our winner, Felipe Calderon, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
