PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Nevils (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris de la Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nevils comes into the arena with Someday- Flipsyde blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nevils fails to land the takedown.

Nevils scores with a takedown into de la Cruz's guard.
Nevils throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as de la Cruz works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Nevils pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. de la Cruz is keeping the position for now.

de la Cruz is working an open guard so Nevils takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Nevils misses with a wild combination.

de la Cruz tries to roll over but Nevils keeps him under control.
Nevils is looking to take a break and control but de la Cruz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nevils is looking to advance position but de la Cruz won't allow it.
Nevils looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks de la Cruz with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nevils is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nevils seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but de la Cruz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
de la Cruz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for de la Cruz.

de la Cruz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nevils doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nevils manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

de la Cruz is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Nevils is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Nevils has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed de la Cruz clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Nevils is breathing heavily.
de la Cruz is taking damage to the body and head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
de la Cruz can't escape the position.
Nevils is riding his opponent, not letting de la Cruz buck him off.
Can de la Cruz hold on?! Nevils is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Nevils has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, de la Cruz has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Nevils keeps control of the position as de la Cruz tries to break free.

de la Cruz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nevils manages to get himself to full guard.

de la Cruz has hold of Nevils's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Nevils manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

de la Cruz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nevils regains full guard. Nicely done.

Nevils had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. de la Cruz is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Nevils Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take de la Cruz's back instead.
Nevils slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Nevils doesn't have the hooks in and de la Cruz manages to turn into his guard.

Nevils thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nevils accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Nevils shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Nevils wants to control the pace but de la Cruz is squirming around nicely.
de la Cruz wants to hold on but Nevils pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Nevils dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


de la Cruz jabs Nevils right on the nose. Nevils blinks but takes it well.
Ryan Nevils is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

de la Cruz takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Nevils not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nevils, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
