Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Phil Hellmuth Jr! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ivan Spinolio! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hellmuth Jr swings for the body but Spinolio moves out of range.
Spinolio misses with a looping left. Spinolio ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Spinolio misses with an uppercut
and Hellmuth Jr counters with a nice body shot. Spinolio throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Spinolio fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hellmuth Jr manages to avoid it. Hellmuth Jr is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Spinolio. Hellmuth Jr keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Spinolio lands a lovely overhand right. Hellmuth Jr tests Spinolio's chin there with a solid looking shot. Hellmuth Jr moves out of range of the strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spinolio lands a jab. Spinolio throws an overhand right that lands on Hellmuth Jr's shoulder, as Hellmuth Jr tries to avoid the shot. Hellmuth Jr tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Spinolio manages to circle out of the way. Spinolio throws a body punch but Hellmuth Jr moves out of range. Spinolio misses with a body shot.
Hellmuth Jr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Spinolio.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A combination from Spinolio does no damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spinolio misses with a hook
and Hellmuth Jr moves into the clinch. Spinolio has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Hellmuth Jr lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Nice elbow from Hellmuth Jr. Spinolio wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Hellmuth Jr lands a nice elbow. Spinolio pushes Hellmuth Jr back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Hellmuth Jr lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Hellmuth Jr comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Hellmuth Jr scores with a shot to the side of Spinolio's head. Spinolio wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Clinched against the cage, Hellmuth Jr lands a big elbow that drops Spinolio! The ref dives in to save him from more shots - Spinolio is complaining that he's OK but he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Hellmuth Jr! Phil Hellmuth Jr is the new super heavyweight champion! Phil Hellmuth Jr decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
