PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronald Fredrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Coldchain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fredrick kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz: Throw It Up. James Coldchain is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ronald Fredrick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, James Coldchain!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Dirk Anderson and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coldchain has managed to clinch.

Coldchain breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Coldchain throws a sloppy head kick and Fredrick moves out of range easily.
Fredrick shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Coldchain but Coldchain pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Coldchain closes the distance and clinches.
Fredrick tries a knee to the head but Coldchain blocks it.
Coldchain has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fredrick is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Coldchain blocks the elbow strike.

Fredrick escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Coldchain looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fredrick is fending him off so far but Coldchain persists. Nope, Fredrick circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Coldchain stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Coldchain wants it to stay on the feet.
Coldchain pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Coldchain should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Fredrick closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Coldchain quickly recovers to half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fredrick wants to pass to mount but Coldchain is defending the position.
Coldchain wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fredrick looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Coldchain with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Fredrick prevents Coldchain from improving his position.

Fredrick is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fredrick has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Coldchain gets back to full guard.
Coldchain looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fredrick is one step ahead there.
Coldchain punching to the body, from the bottom.
Fredrick lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Fredrick definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Fredrick trying to control the position from guard on top but Coldchain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Fredrick scoring with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fredrick trying to control but Coldchain is working from the bottom.
Coldchain wants to sweep but no luck.

Coldchain manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Fredrick shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Coldchain counters with a nice uppercut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronald Fredrick. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Coldchain throws a poor cross that misses
and Fredrick counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fredrick throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Coldchain instigates a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Coldchain.
Fredrick looking to slow down the pace here.
Coldchain blocks an uppercut.
Fredrick drops down looking for an ankle pick but Coldchain pulls his leg out and moves away.
Coldchain throws a right hand that Fredrick ducks under and follows up with a left that Fredrick also avoids with ease.
Fredrick fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Coldchain avoids it really well and circles away.
Coldchain darts in looking for a takedown but Fredrick gets double underhooks and turns Coldchain into the cage.

Coldchain takes the fight into the clinch.

Fredrick pulls guard successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fredrick preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Fredrick manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Coldchain manages to get himself to full guard.

Fredrick prevents Coldchain from getting back to his feet.
Fredrick trying to control the position from guard on top but Coldchain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coldchain looking for a sweep. Not yet Coldchain, not yet.

Coldchain scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Fredrick closes this distance looking for a takedown but Coldchain circles away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Coldchain tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Fredrick defends well and Coldchain ends up having to push Fredrick into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
A punch combination from Coldchain misses.
Coldchain looks winded!
Coldchain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A little jabbing left from Coldchain on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but James Coldchain will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Coldchain fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fredrick will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Fredrick counters by clinching up.
Fredrick with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Fredrick gets through Coldchain's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Fredrick tries to pull guard but Coldchain won't allow it.
Fredrick tries for a takedown but Coldchain manages to get underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Coldchain must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Fredrick is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Coldchain has his hands clasped together but Fredrick extends and breaks Coldchain's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Fredrick.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ronald Fredrick!
A relieved looking Ronald Fredrick thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
