Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Benny Lawlor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lawlor kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is I Have A Dream. West is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Roy Jones - Can't be touched. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Benny Lawlor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andrew West! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! West shoots for a takedown but Lawlor saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. West moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Lawlor's corner calls for a 1-2. Lawlor obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. West takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Lawlor slips a jab from West. Lawlor has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. West is looking to score with low kicks. Lawlor just misses with a punch to the body.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that West has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. West tries a low kick but Lawlor avoids it. West misses with a telegraphed body shot
enabling Lawlor to counter with a crisp jab. Lawlor ducks under a wild hook from West. Lawlor slips a jab from West. A punch combination from Lawlor misses. West throws a counter combo. West swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Lawlor. Lawlor fakes high and swings low for a body shot but West manages to avoid it. Lawlor moves out of range as West strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. West misses with a double jab
and Lawlor counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Lawlor throws a wild combination but nothing lands. West pivots, looking for a leg kick but Lawlor is out of range and West settles back down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lawlor smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. West connects with the punch. West shoots in but Lawlor avoids the takedown attempt easily. Lawlor is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Lawlor punishes West's body with a nice straight punch. West misses the shot to the body. Lawlor lands a nice hook to West's body. West takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. West throws a right hand that misses
and West takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Benny Lawlor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. West closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! West sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lawlor defending well though. Lawlor wants to improve his position but West is controlling well.
West not landing any meaningful shots this time. West has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. West landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Lawlor is trying to defend against the ground and pound but West scores with a couple of nice shots.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lawlor is trying to stand up here but West is controlling him well. West is looking to advance position but Lawlor won't allow it. Lawlor is trying to get back to full guard. Ground and pound from West. Ground and pound from West. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. West working Lawlor over with strikes. West is trying to work for a kimura but Lawlor is defending well.
West passes to side control. Lawlor prevents West from improving position. Lawlor tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but West presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lawlor really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
West is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lawlor can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

West unloading with bombs! Lawlor's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. West lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Lawlor is trying to stand. West landing strikes from the mount. West trying to control but he's not successful this time. West is landing with some decent strikes but Lawlor is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
That's four minutes gone in the round. West unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Lawlor wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! West celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrew West! Andrew West got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!' In defeat, Benny Lawlor stepped up to the mic, saying 'best 2 of 3?'.
