Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Alexander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, JT Howitz!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howitz throws a combination that misses

and Alexander counters by clinching up.

Alexander breaks the clinch.

Howitz shoots in and bounces Alexander off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Alexander might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Alexander is trying to control the position but Howitz postures up.
Howitz with a flurry of punches that miss.
Howitz is looking to pass into half guard but Alexander pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Alexander is in guard.

Alexander throws a big elbow that misses.
Alexander stays in close to Howitz's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alexander loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Howitz keeping moving, preventing Alexander from controlling successfully.
Alexander is stalling in the full guard.
Howitz has control of Alexander's left arm, preventing Alexander from doing any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Alexander seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Howitz gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alexander manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Howitz is nestled in close to Alexander, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Alexander moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Howitz scoring with punches to the head and body.
Howitz throws an elbow that misses. Alexander uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Howitz's guard. Nice move by Alexander!

Alexander is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Howitz has control of Alexander's left arm, preventing Alexander from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Howitz wants to stand up but Alexander is controlling him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Alexander won't allow Howitz to sweep him here.
Alexander seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Alexander won't allow Howitz to get back to his feet.

Howitz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alexander defends it easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alexander blocks a low kick nicely.
It looked like Alexander was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Alexander will probably get the nod.
That's time! Alexander's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Howitz shoots in and bounces Alexander off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
JT Howitz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Howitz with a nice head shot there.
Howitz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alexander. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Alexander is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Howitz frees his head nicely. Oh but Alexander has switched to an armbar! Howitz is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
