The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maiza throws a poor cross that misses
so Hawk counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Hawk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maiza working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hawk doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hawk manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maiza is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hawk pulls his head out easily. Hawk is trying for a kimura here. Maiza looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Hawk wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Doyle Hawk! A less than humble Doyle Hawk misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
