Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Barry Hawkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marcus Kingston! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kingston lands with a right hand. Kingston stalks Hawkins and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hawkins's face. Hawkins staggers backwards, shaken. Kingston fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Marcus Kingston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kingston throws a right and a left that both miss. Kingston displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Hawkins connects with a single shot there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hawkins shoots in for a double leg but Kingston sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Kingston throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Hawkins half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. No joy there for Kingston, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kingston lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hawkins circles away quickly and effectively. Hawkins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kingston sprawls well. Kingston wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hawkins gets slowly back to his feet. Hawkins takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kingston will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kingston misses with a combination
and Hawkins counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Hawkins works his way into full mount! Kingston is trying to escape the mount but Hawkins keeps good control and instead manages to take Kingston's back.
Kingston is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Hawkins is looking to control Kingston but Kingston is wriggling around and keeping busy. Kingston is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Hawkins off. It looks like it's working - Hawkins slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Kingston displaying calm under pressure there. Kingston's corner calls for a 1-2. Kingston obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Kingston lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hawkins circles away quickly and effectively. A little feinted left hand from Hawkins on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Kingston moves into range and connects with a jab. A nice combination there by Kingston.
Kingston throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Hawkins crashing down! Hawkins tries to stagger back to his feet but Kingston just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Hawkins asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marcus Kingston!
