PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devil Jin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pettis has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Antonio Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Devil Jin!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jin fails with an attempt to clinch.

A little feinted left hand from Pettis on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Pettis scores with a hook to the body. Jin takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Pettis throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jin.
Jin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pettis paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Pettis has managed to clinch.

Pettis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pettis's waist but Pettis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jin off to one side.

Pettis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jin is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Jin has eaten all the pies!

Pettis decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Jin dives in and grabs Pettis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pettis pushes down on Jin's head and hops out.

Jin doesn't manage to clinch there - Pettis circles away.
Jin is looking to clinch but Pettis is avoiding it.

Pettis moves into the clinch.
Jin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pettis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Antonio Pettis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devil Jin.

Pettis rushes Jin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Pettis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jin is working for takedown but Pettis is calmly controlling the position for now.

Pettis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Pettis throws the kick towards the body but Jin avoids it.
Jin throws a push kick but Pettis slaps the foot to one side.
Antonio Pettis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pettis gets tackled into the cage by Jin. Jin maintains the clinch.
Jin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jin tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Pettis avoids it.
Pettis drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jin pulls his leg out and moves away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pettis.
Jin is looking for the big counter here.
Pettis is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nice takedown defense from Jin. No joy for Pettis on that attempt.
Pettis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Jin counters by clinching up.
Jin has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Pettis after a bit of a struggle.

Jin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pettis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jin has managed to get both his arms back between Pettis's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pettis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jin pinned against the cage. Jin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Pettis slips a straight right by Jin.
Pettis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jin can do to turn this around?
Jin lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Pettis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pettis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jin tries to avoid it but Pettis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jin to the ground. Jin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jin looks for a takedown but Pettis sprawls well.

Jin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Pettis tries for a takedown but Jin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Jin has had enough of the clinch but Pettis keeps him there for the moment.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Pettis has Jin pressed against the cage, preventing Jin from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Jin wants to counter the offense by Pettis and move into the clinch position.

Jin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jin shoots in but Pettis avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Antonio Pettis will probably get the nod.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Antonio Pettis.
Well Pettis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
