Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrew Weffart! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pablo Escobar! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Weffart is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Escobar shoots in and bounces Weffart off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Escobar controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Escobar scoring with some ground and pound. Weffart really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Escobar pushes down on Weffart's leg and manages to get into half guard. Escobar performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Escobar throwing shots but Weffart is blocking nicely. Escobar trying to control the pace. Escobar passes to side control. Escobar controlling the position from side mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Weffart knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Escobar on the ground. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Escobar passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Weffart! Weffart definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Weffart is trying to stand. Escobar looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Escobar's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Escobar has control of Weffart's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Weffart regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Escobar scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Weffart?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Escobar is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Weffart can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Escobar fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Weffart is rocked! Escobar unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Weffart wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Escobar celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pablo Escobar!
