Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Desmond The Finish! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Hogan! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The Finish moves out of range of the strikes. The fight stays on the outside here - The Finish looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Nice sprawl there from The Finish as Hogan shoots in. Hogan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. The Finish tries to clinch up but Hogan circles away and keeps his distance. Hogan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has The Finish pinned against the cage. The Finish gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Desmond The Finish has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Hogan. The Finish fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hogan keeps the fight on the outside. The Finish stuffs the takedown attempt from Hogan. Hogan gets slowly back to his feet. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. The Finish works his way to full guard. Good work. The Finish bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hogan's guard. The Finish postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hogan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of The Finish, into his guard. The Finish manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hogan manages to get himself to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The Finish passes Hogan's left leg - he's now in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The Finish is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Hogan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. The Finish trying to control the action but Hogan is working from the bottom. The Finish is looking to advance position but Hogan won't allow it. Hogan actively working from the bottom here.
