Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Welch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cage Southcutt! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Southcutt scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Welch throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Welch clinches up against the cage. Southcutt lands a takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Welch is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Southcutt is aware though and is defending well. Southcutt slips nicely into half guard. Welch really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Welch is holding on to half guard well. Welch wants to control but Southcutt is keeping busy and won't allow it. Southcutt is working for a submission of some sort.

Welch kicks Southcutt off and gets to his feet. Welch clinches up with Southcutt and pushes him back against the cage. Welch managing to block the knees to the body from Southcutt.

Bruce Welch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cage Southcutt. Welch keeps control of Southcutt as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Welch gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Southcutt regains guard.

There ya go! There ya go! Southcutt avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Welch with a nice head shot there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Welch keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Southcutt's head. Welch postures up in Southcutt's guard and throws a big left but Southcutt blocks it. Welch stands up over Southcutt, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Welch with a nice head shot there. Welch wants to get up but he can't break Southcutt's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Welch is in close to Southcutt's body, working some short punches and elbows. Welch in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Southcutt wants to stand but Welch is controlling the position. Southcutt avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Welch wanted to stand there but Southcutt had control of the position.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Welch shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Southcutt sprawls well. That's going to take a lot out of Cage Southcutt. Southcutt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Welch manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Bruce Welch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Southcutt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Welch circles away. Southcutt is breathing heavily. Southcutt tries to clinch but Welch is having none of it. Southcutt misses with a wild body shot. Welch throws a right and a left that Southcutt avoids nicely. Welch closes this distance looking for a takedown but Southcutt circles away. Welch displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Southcutt. Welch pushes Southcutt up against the cage in a clinch. Welch has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Southcutt after a bit of a struggle. Welch has Southcutt pressed against the cage, preventing Southcutt from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Southcutt is trying to maintain a safe position but Welch gets an underhook and turns Southcutt into the cage. Welch drops down looking for an ankle pick but Southcutt pulls his leg out and moves away.

He's got his arms around Southcutt's waist but Southcutt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Welch off to one side. Southcutt throws a right hand that Welch ducks under and follows up with a left that Welch also avoids with ease. Welch manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Southcutt on his heels. He'll look to pass Southcutt's guard now, I'm sure. Southcutt is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Welch presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. A frustrated look appears on Southcutt's face as he tries to break the clinch. Southcutt fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Welch gets caught napping as Southcutt dives in and scores a takedown. Welch manages to retain guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Southcutt throws a big right hand that misses.
