Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rusev Hungary! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Panupong Singsurat! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hungary avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hungary drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Hungary is rocked! Singsurat closes the distance and clinches. Singsurat has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hungary uses from the top position. Hungary postures up in Singsurat's guard and throws a big left but Singsurat blocks it. Singsurat wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Singsurat pushes Hungary off and scrambles back to his feet.
Singsurat will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Singsurat shoots in looking for a takedown. Hungary tries to sprawl out of it but Singsurat keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hungary manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Singsurat gets a takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Singsurat throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Still in half guard, Singsurat seems content to control. Let's hope that Singsurat has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Hungary's coaches at The Highland Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hungary blocking the ground and pound attempt from Singsurat. Singsurat controlling the action here. Singsurat has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Singsurat is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Hungary is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
