The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Twenty Two shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Thomson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Thomson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Twenty Two's efforts to push away.
Twenty Two is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Thomson to keep the fight standing.

Thomson pulls guard.
Thomson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Twenty Two is controlling him.
Thomson has a closed guard, preventing Twenty Two from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Twenty Two is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Thomson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Twenty Two is looking for a triangle but Thomson pushes his legs off easily.

Thomson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Twenty Two tries to kick Thomson off in order to stand up. Thomson Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Twenty Two looks to move to half guard but instead Thomson has passed into mount! Damn!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Twenty Two takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Thomson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Twenty Two is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Thomson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Thomson controlling the position easily from mount.
Thomson is landing with some decent strikes but Twenty Two is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Thomson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Thomson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Twenty Two for as long as he can get away with.

Twenty Two tries to improve his position but Thomson has taken his back! Thomson has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Twenty Two tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Thomson pushes Twenty Two away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
