PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Phoenix Templar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Rockatansky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Phoenix Templar has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Phoenix Templar seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phoenix Templar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Max Rockatansky!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, John Roberts and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot by Rockatansky.
Templar lands a nice hook to Rockatansky's body. Rockatansky takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Templar closes the distance and clinches.
Templar misses with a knee to the head.
Templar tries to land knees in the clinch but Rockatansky avoids the damage to the body.

Rockatansky pushes Templar back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Templar creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Templar misses with some punches.
Templar swings wildly with an uppercut but Rockatansky uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rockatansky is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Templar lands with a right to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Templar ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Templar no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Rockatansky must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Templar throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rockatansky escapes and throws Templar's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Rockatansky tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Templar was well out of range. Poor timing from Rockatansky.
Templar seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Max Rockatansky is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rockatansky scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Templar drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rockatansky utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rockatansky wants to stand up but Templar is controlling him.
Rockatansky looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Templar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That was a close round but I would say that Phoenix Templar will probably get the nod.

Rockatansky throws an overhand right that lands on Templar's shoulder, as Templar tries to avoid the shot.
Templar fires out a quick counter leg kick but Rockatansky just manages to avoid it.
Rockatansky swings for the body but Templar moves out of range.

A punch combination from Rockatansky misses.
Rockatansky scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Templar throws out a powerful jab.
Templar uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Rockatansky.
Rockatansky bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Templar's head.
Templar dives in and grabs Rockatansky's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rockatansky pushes down on Templar's head and hops out.
Rockatansky throws a hook but Templar avoids it easily.
Max Rockatansky seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rockatansky misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rockatansky swings and misses with a hook to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Templar throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rockatansky displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Templar.

Templar lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Templar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Templar is looking to take a break and control but Rockatansky is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Templar scores with a couple of short elbows.
Templar works to advance to full mount. Rockatansky defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Templar throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rockatansky wants to improve his position but Templar is controlling well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Templar thows a huge punch but Rockatansky dodges it nicely.
Rockatansky really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Templar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Phoenix Templar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Templar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Templar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rockatansky is positioning himself well to prevent Templar advancing to mount.

Templar tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rockatansky manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rockatansky throws out a counter right but Templar avoids it with no problem.

Rockatansky looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Rockatansky fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Templar on the side of the head.
Templar lands a jab to the nose.

Templar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Templar dips to his left and cracks Rockatansky with an uppercut!
Templar shoots for a takedown but Rockatansky saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Max Rockatansky has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Templar darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Templar throws a big shot that misses.
Templar does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Templar misses with an uppercut. Rockatansky saw that one coming.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rockatansky! But no joy.

and Templar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Phoenix Templar.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Templar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
