The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scarpa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carter defends well and Scarpa ends up having to push Carter into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Carter lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Carter has closed the distance and engaged Scarpa in a clinch.
Carter has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Scarpa uses from the top position.
Scarpa won't allow Carter to get back to his feet.
Scarpa tries to free his leg and advance position but Carter is retaining full guard.
Scarpa is pushing down on Carter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Carter is fighting to maintain full guard but Scarpa has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
