PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brian Rodelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Simon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simon comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Darude - Sandstorm kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brian Rodelin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Simon!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Darius Henderson and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodelin misses with a takedown attempt

and Simon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rodelin's guard.

Rodelin is looking for a triangle but Simon pushes his legs off easily.

Rodelin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Simon throws a strike but Rodelin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simon can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rodelin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rodelin has managed to get both his arms back between Simon's legs - danger averted.
Simon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Simon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Rodelin is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Simon isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Rodelin stacks Simon on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Rodelin!

Rodelin stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Simon throws a leg kick

so Rodelin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Rodelin stays in close to Simon's body and controls the position.

Simon working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Rodelin has passed into half guard!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Rodelin decides to return to a standing position.
Nice jab there from Simon.
Simon misses with a body kick.

Rodelin manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Simon on his heels. He'll look to pass Simon's guard now, I'm sure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rodelin passes Simon's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Rodelin stands up from half guard.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rodelin is defended easily by Simon.
Simon throws a combination. Rodelin tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Simon is looking to clinch but Rodelin is avoiding it.
Rodelin tries to counter by clinching up but Simon breaks away and moves out of range.
Simon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rodelin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Simon.
Rodelin shoots in for a takedown but Simon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Rodelin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rodelin dives in and scores a takedown into Simon's guard.
Rodelin wants to control from the top but Simon keeps moving.
Simon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Simon tries to roll over but Rodelin keeps him under control.

Rodelin decides to return to a standing position.
Rodelin tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Simon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Simon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rodelin defends well and Simon ends up having to push Rodelin into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Simon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Simon misses with an attempted mid kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Rodelin dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Rodelin checks a leg kick nicely.
Simon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rodelin moves away.
Rodelin is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Simon.
Rodelin darts in looking for a takedown but Simon gets double underhooks and turns Rodelin into the ropes.
Rodelin closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Rodelin gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Simon checks a low kick from Rodelin.
Rodelin fails with the takedown.
Rodelin blocks a head kick by Simon.
Rodelin half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Simon throws the kick towards the body but Rodelin avoids it.
Simon just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromRodelin.
Simon scores with a leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Simon.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rodelin.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Rodelin here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Simon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rodelin tries for a kimura but Simon is defending well.

Rodelin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Simon down.
Simon looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Rodelin misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Simon tries to improve position but can't.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
