Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnathon Duran! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kurbanali Azizov! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Azizov gets a takedown into half guard. Azizov seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Azizov trying to advance position but Duran counters by regaining guard. Duran working for a triangle but Azizov defends it easily.
Duran throws a couple of heel strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Duran is trying to keep Azizov in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Azizov trying to control but Duran is working from the bottom. Duran seems keen to control Azizov's posture. Azizov trying to control the position from guard on top but Duran is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Duran might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Azizov might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Duran haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Azizov gets a double leg takedown into Duran's guard. Azizov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Duran keeping full guard, as Azizov tries to pass. Duran controlling Azizov's posture. Duran really is a fat lump. Duran keeping moving, preventing Azizov from controlling successfully. Azizov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Azizov is looking to pass into half guard but Duran pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Duran is in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Azizov wants to control but Duran passes easily into half guard.
Azizov is trying to stand.
Azizov is trying to get back to full guard. Azizov moves into full guard.
Azizov has momentary wrist control but Duran slips an elbow through the middle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Azizov has control of Duran's left arm, preventing Duran from doing any damage. Azizov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Duran wants to get back to his feet.
Azizov trying to control the action but Duran is working from the bottom. Duran is trying to stand back up but Azizov is controlling him
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Duran is trying is best to control the position here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Kurbanali Azizov will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Azizov moves into range and clinches up with Duran. Duran has had enough of the clinch but Azizov keeps him there for the moment. Duran wants a takedown but no success here.
Azizov has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Duran is looking to break free of the clinch but Azizov has double underhooks. Azizov has Duran pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Azizov pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Duran tumbling to the mat - Azizov dives into Duran's guard. Duran wants to stand and escape but Azizov is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Azizov wants to control from the top but Duran keeps moving. Duran being controlled here, momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duran controlling the position. Azizov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Azizov tries to stand but Duran is controlling from the bottom. Azizov prevents Duran from getting back to his feet.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Azizov has closed the distance and engaged Duran in a clinch.
Duran is trying to pull guard but Azizov has him pressed against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Azizov breaks from the clinch.
Azizov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Duran's guard. Duran keeping moving, preventing Azizov from controlling successfully. Duran wants to stand and escape. He's got his foot on Azizov's hips, looking to push off. But Azizov grabs a hold of the leg and drops back for an ankle lock! It's hard to tell if he's got it. Both fighters look composed - OH, not anymore they don't! Duran screams like a kid who's trapped his fingers in the car door and taps out! Yikes, that must have hurt - hopefully it's not snapped anything!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Kurbanali Azizov!
