Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Caim Moraes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Rodri! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Michael Johnstone and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodri tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Moraes swivels and escapes. Moraes appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Moraes dives in for a single leg takedown but Rodri sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Rodri throws a right and a left that both miss. Rodri showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Moraes.
Rodri closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Moraes moves into full guard.
Rodri throws a big elbow that misses. Rodri really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Moraes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodri got a little sloppy there for a moment and Moraes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rodri has managed to get both his arms back between Moraes's legs - danger averted. Moraes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rodri doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Moraes is tightening it up a little... Rodri has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Rodri reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Rodri taps out! Nice BJJ there by Moraes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Caim Moraes!
