Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Raul Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Schilling! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mendez doesn't succeed with the takedown and Schilling cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Schilling scores with a jab. Mendez acknowledges it with a nod of the head. No luck for Mendez with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raul Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mendez gets the takedown into side control. Schilling bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! This has been an exciting period of action! Nice takedown defense from Schilling. No joy for Mendez on that attempt. Mendez closes the distance and clinches up with Schilling, looking for a takedown. Mendez pushes Schilling against the cage but Schilling circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mendez with a lazy takedown attempt and Schilling counters with a stiff right hand. Mendez shoots in looking for a takedown. Schilling tries to sprawl out of it but Mendez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Schilling manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schilling connects with a leg kick. Mendez looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Mendez tries for a takedown but Schilling circles away easily and Schilling counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Mendez takes one to the chin there. Schilling keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Schilling lands a head kick. Mendez smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
It looks like Raul Mendez has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schilling buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Schilling cracks Mendez with an open hand slap. Schilling lands a nice hook to Mendez's body. Mendez takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Mendez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Schilling goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Schilling tries to bum rush Mendez with a series of wild strikes but Mendez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Mendez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Schilling can pounce on him.
Schilling drops Mendez with a beautiful combination! Mendez stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Schilling is looking for the KO!
Mendez is rocked! Schilling throws an uppercut from hell that sends Mendez clean off his feet! He's out cold! Schilling stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.
