PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocky Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matt Alexander had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Alexander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rocky Balboa!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alexander moves out of range of the body kick.
Balboa throws a head kick that misses

and Alexander counters with a shoot takedown. Balboa fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alexander is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Alexander won't allow Balboa to sweep him here.
Alexander is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Alexander tries to sprawl but Balboa drives through with a takedown into half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Alexander manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Balboa gets to his feet - Alexander follows without any prompting.
Alexander tries to work over Balboa's front leg with a kick but Balboa checks it.
Alexander wants to slow Balboa down by chopping away at his legs.

Balboa closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Alexander's guard.

Alexander is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Balboa turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Balboa manages to end up in side control.
Alexander is trying to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on Alexander's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Alexander doesn't manage to clinch there - Balboa circles away.

Balboa decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

A close round but Rocky Balboa will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Balboa can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alexander controls the pace.

Alexander is working Balboa over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Alexander is taking a breather. Balboa says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Rocky Balboa has got the better of the ground game so far.

Alexander wants to take a breather but Balboa is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Balboa looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Alexander seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Alexander looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Balboa misses with a wild combination.

Alexander gets a takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Alexander seems content to control.
Alexander seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Balboa for as long as he can get away with.

Alexander looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Still in half guard, Alexander seems content to control.

Alexander thows a huge punch but Balboa dodges it nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Balboa manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Alexander on his heels. He'll look to pass Alexander's guard now, I'm sure.

Alexander is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Balboa defends well.

Alexander is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Alexander had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Balboa defends it easily.

Balboa throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Alexander tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Balboa is in Alexander's guard.

Rocky Balboa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Balboa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
