Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ronnie Whiteford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Number Thirty Four! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whiteford throws a half hearted mid kick. Whiteford tries for a takedown but Thirty Four sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Thirty Four. Thirty Four tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whiteford sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thirty Four somewhat. Whiteford tries to counter with a takedown but Thirty Four is quick to defend against it. Whiteford feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whiteford slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Whiteford passes Thirty Four's left leg - he's now in half guard. Whiteford throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thirty Four is trying to get back to full guard. Thirty Four wants to control but Whiteford is keeping busy.
Whiteford frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Whiteford tries to control but Thirty Four wriggling away. Thirty Four tries to control Whiteford's body but Whiteford pushes him off. Thirty Four squirms to his side and now Whiteford has his back! Whiteford is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Thirty Four with him. Thirty Four is trying to defend but Whiteford has an arm under the chin now! Thirty Four grimaces and is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ronnie Whiteford! Ronnie Whiteford decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
