PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Morgan Springer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Darren Martin looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Morgan Springer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Darren Martin!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Springer goes for a double leg but Martin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Martin continues to drive forward.
Springer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Martin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Martin wants it to stay on the feet.
Martin's coach down at The Iron Works $800 Elite Coaches was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Martin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Morgan Springer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Springer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martin tries to avoid it but Springer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martin to the ground. Martin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Martin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Springer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Martin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Martin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Springer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Martin somewhat.

Springer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Martin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Martin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Springer gets back to full guard.
Martin won't allow Springer to sweep him here.

Martin throws a big right hand that misses.
Springer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Martin's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Springer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Springer wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Martin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Springer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Martin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Springer quickly recovers to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Springer holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

That was a close round but I would say that Morgan Springer will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Martin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Springer is just riding it out for now. Martin eventually gives up the hold.

Well Martin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
