Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Lewsk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Valimir Putin! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Putin lands with a right hand. Putin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Lewsk escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Putin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Lewsk has his foot on Putin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Putin works his way back into a safe position though. Lewsk striking from the bottom here. Lewsk avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Putin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Putin throws a big right hand that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lewsk looking for a guillotine here but Putin defends easily.
Putin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lewsk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Putin throws a strike but Lewsk rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Putin wants to stand but Lewsk is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lewsk drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lewsk jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Putin wants to stand and escape but Lewsk is having none of it. Lewsk lands a couple of elbows. Lewsk trying to control the position from guard on top but Putin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lewsk forces his way into half guard. Lewsk is looking for a kimura here.
Lewsk scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Lewsk is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Putin is looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Putin blocking the ground and pound attempt from Lewsk. Putin trying to control here.
Lewsk looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Lewsk throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Lewsk in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Putin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Lewsk!
