PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David McFadden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McFadden's entrance music is Sevendust - Enemy. A fine choice. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David McFadden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walter Black!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McFadden fails in his attempt to clinch.

McFadden forces Black back against the cage and clinches.
Black on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Black drops down looking for an ankle pick but McFadden pulls his leg out and moves away.
McFadden is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
McFadden throws a series of strikes that have Black backpedaling.
An inside leg kick from McFadden misses.
Black tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
McFadden throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Black feints the counter takedown.
A head kick misses from McFadden.

Black shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. McFadden is trying to defend but Black finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Black content to control rather than advance.
My spies in The Iron Palace inform me that Black has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
McFadden has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

McFadden is trying to stand up here but Black is controlling him well.
Black is taking a breather. McFadden says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McFadden wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Black gets the takedown into side control.
McFadden wants to get back to his feet but Black drags him back down.

McFadden is trying to buck Black off.
Black controlling from side mount.
Black's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Black shoots in looking for a takedown. McFadden tries to sprawl out of it but Black keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McFadden manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Black counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
McFadden is trying to stand up here but Black is controlling him well.

More stalling from Black.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Black is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Walter Black will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McFadden moves out of range of the strikes.
Black shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as McFadden sprawls well. McFadden wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Black gets slowly back to his feet.
David McFadden is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Black takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Black works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Black wants to pass the guard but McFadden is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Still in half guard, Black seems content to control.
Black wants to pass to mount but McFadden is defending the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Black slows the pace down in half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Black works his way into side control.
McFadden parries the strikes from Black easily there. Black is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable McFadden to escape.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
McFadden pushes Black away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Black gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Black decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
McFadden looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Black thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Black has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Black takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McFadden tries to kick Black off but Black keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Black looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

McFadden throws a head kick that misses.

McFadden takes the fight into the clinch.

McFadden is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Black is defending well for now.

Black has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but McFadden regains guard immediately.

Black is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walter Black showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

McFadden throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Black blocks it with crossed arms.

McFadden tries to close the distance and clinch but Black swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Black is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Black dives in and scores a takedown into McFadden's guard.
McFadden is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Black is controlling him.

Black is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Black slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Black misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Black is looking to take a break and control but McFadden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Black content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

McFadden lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
McFadden lands a nice shot that snaps Black's head back.
Black closes the distance and clinches up with McFadden, looking for a takedown. Black pushes McFadden against the cage but McFadden circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Black feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits McFaddens jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Black closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McFadden to the mat! McFadden manages to get full guard.
Walter Black has got the better of the ground game so far.
Black controlling from the top position.
McFadden is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

And that's the end of the fight!
David McFadden showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Black has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
