Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Soboyt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Kessel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Soboyt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Kessel!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kessel looks for a takedown but Soboyt sprawls well.
Kessel doesn't manage to clinch there - Soboyt circles away.
Soboyt fails with the takedown

and Kessel counters with a takedown into side control.
Kessel moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Soboyt is looking for a sweep.
Kessel lands some shots froms side control.
Soboyt is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Soboyt scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Kessel manages to mount him!
Kessel putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Kessel content just to control the position here.
Soboyt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kessel won't let Soboyt get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Soboyt can't escape the position.
Soboyt taking shots to the head.

Kessel has control of Soboyt's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Soboyt regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soboyt squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Kessel trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Soboyt tries to lock up and control but Kessel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Kessel landing shots from mount.
Soboyt is trying desperately to improve position.
Soboyt bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Soboyt wants to stand but Kessel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Soboyt is breathing heavily.
Kessel looking for a sweep. Not yet Kessel, not yet.

Soboyt tries to stand but Kessel is controlling from the bottom.

Kessel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Soboyt is one step ahead there.
Kessel trying to strike off his back.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Kessel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kessel showed some decent athleticism there.

Soboyt is trying to stand up here but Kessel is controlling him well.
Kessel trying to pass the guard but Soboyt defending well.
Soboyt slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kessel looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Soboyt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Kessel dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kessel is trying for a kimura here. Soboyt looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Kessel wins by kimura!
