PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Doby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doby comes to the cage accompanied by International Players Anthem. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Shane Doby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 42 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rogers closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Doby to the mat! Doby manages to get full guard.
Doby looking to control but Rogers passes into half guard.
Doby is not content to let Rogers control the position.
Doby wants to get back to full guard.
Doby is trying to control but Rogers manages to pass to mount!
Doby regains half guard.
Doby is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rogers is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Doby is surviving well by controlling Rogers's body position as best he can.

Rogers has hold of Doby's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Doby manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Doby is looking to improve his position but Rogers isn't that keen on the idea.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Doby wants to improve his position but Rogers is controlling well.
Doby is staying active underneath Rogers, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rogers tries to pass the half guard into mount. Doby knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Rogers seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Doby does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Our spies down at at Demon's Elite Gym inform us that Rogers has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Doby is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rogers sees it coming and defends easily.

Doby is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rogers is just riding it out for now. Doby eventually gives up the hold.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jab, jab by Doby - just one landing.
Doby dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rogers uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Doby.
Doby tries to clinch up but Rogers circles away and keeps his distance.
Doby ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rogers moves away.
Rogers lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Doby circles away quickly and effectively.

As Doby backs off Rogers throws a huge counter combo but Doby manages to avoid it all.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Doby is wriggling around trying to escape.

Doby is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rogers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rogers's back!

Doby thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Rogers rolls, trying to escape but Doby keeps control of the position.
Doby throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Rogers!

Doby is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doby not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shane Doby.
I think Doby has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
