Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wendell Johns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Jardim! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johns gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Jardim is stalling in the full guard. It looks like Jardim might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Jardim is in close to Johns's body, working some short punches and elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johns is trying to keep Jardim in close.
Jardim slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Johns tries to land a sweep but no joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johns working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jardim. Jardim is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johns managing to control the position. Johns can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jardim controls the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Marcelo Jardim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jardim shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Jardim fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Johns to the ground. Jardim is now in Johns's guard. Johns controls Jardim momentarily but Jardim frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johns is pulling down on Jardim's head to control his posture. Jardim stays in close to Johns's body and controls the position. Johns is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Jardim is stalling in the full guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Jardim working some strikes from top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jardim lands a couple of decent looking shots. Johns looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Jardim controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Let's hope that Jardim has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Jardim is continuing to stall.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jardim tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Johns swivels and escapes. Jardim manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Johns on his heels. He'll look to pass Johns's guard now, I'm sure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jardim engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Johns looking to control but Jardim passes into half guard.
Jardim content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marcelo Jardim dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Nice sprawl there from Johns as Jardim shoots in. Johns is looking to counter the offense by Jardim and move into the clinch. Johns throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jardim tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johns sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jardim somewhat. Johns throws a right and a left that Jardim avoids nicely. Jardim misses with a takedown and Johns counters with a two punch combo. Wendell Johns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcelo Jardim. Jardim drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johns keeping full guard, as Jardim tries to pass. Jardim sitting in guard here, content to control. Jardim has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jardim is working Johns over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Johns being controlled here, momentarily. Jardim's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Jardim is working Johns over from the guard. Jardim shoots in and drives through. Johns sprawls well. Johns leaves Jardim with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johns buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Jardim darts in looking for a takedown but Johns gets double underhooks and turns Jardim into the cage. Jardim will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Jardim misses with a takedown attempt - Johns sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Johns is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Jardim. Johns tries to sprawl but Jardim drives through with a takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Well, if Jardim is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Johns is trying to get back to full guard. Jardim performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. No luck for Jardim with that takedown attempt. Wendell Johns is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jardim ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Johns clinches with his opponent.
Johns changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jardim fights it off and pushes away nicely.

A low kick from Johns lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jardim has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jardim and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Johns throws a wild combination but nothing lands. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jardim misses with a takedown attempt - Johns sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Johns stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johns wants it to stay on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Now he's in top in Jardim's guard. Johns scoring with some ground and pound. Jardim trying to keep a closed guard but Johns is proving a slippery customer.

Johns is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jardim is just riding it out for now. Johns eventually gives up the hold. Johns gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Jardim shoots in and bounces Johns off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Johns trying to control the position.
Jardim is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Jardim passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jardim in side control, just content to control the action for now. Johns tries to get back to half guard but can't. Jardim is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Johns's shoulder. That is not cool. The adventures of Jardim the control monster continue. Boring.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Jardim working the head with strikes. Marcelo Jardim has got the better of the ground game so far. Jardim takes a little break here. Johns wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Johns is looking for a sweep. Jardim looks up at the clock and then as Johns takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Jardim smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Johns wants to get back to his feet. Jardim is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! Marcelo Jardim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Jardim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
