Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Barrett Robbins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Daan Mertens!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Robbins tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mertens tries to counter with a clinch but Robbins shakes him off and moves away.
Mertens has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Robbins is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Robbins slaps away a takedown attempt from Mertens, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mertens blocks a head kick by Robbins.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Robbins closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Robbins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mertens will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Mertens shoots in looking for a takedown but Robbins manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mertens's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Barrett Robbins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daan Mertens.

Barrett Robbins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

And Mertens tries to counter it with a takedown but Robbins pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Robbins turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Robbins manages to end up in side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Robbins takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Robbins connects with a nice short shot to Mertens's temple.

Robbins is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mertens can do to turn this around?

Robbins has control of Mertens's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mertens regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Robbins postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mertens looks a forlorn figure.

Robbins jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mertens manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mertens is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Robbins off and has taken his back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That's time! Robbins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Robbins manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mertens on his heels. He'll look to pass Mertens's guard now, I'm sure.

Mertens throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Robbins escapes and throws Mertens's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Mertens manages to work his way to half guard, despite Robbins's best efforts.
Robbins seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Mertens is looking to control Robbins's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mertens avoid being mounted?
Mertens makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mertens.
Robbins connects with a couple of short punches.

Robbins is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Mertens has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Robbins is looking to defend but Mertens has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Robbins! Mertens pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Robbins taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Daan Mertens!
An out of breath Daan Mertens thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
