PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kid Cudi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cudi's entrance music is The Prayer. A fine choice. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kid Cudi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christian Battle!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Battle fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
As Battle tries to get set, Cudi tries to push him back and clinch up but Battle manages to avoid the attempt.

Cudi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Battle looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Battle's face as Cudi controls the position.
Battle is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cudi asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Battle tries to bench press Cudi off him but Cudi keeps the position.
Cudi landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Battle is looking for a sweep.
Cudi really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Battle seems a little lost for a moment, as Cudi dominates the positioning.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Battle tries to bench press Cudi off him but Cudi keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Battle wants to get back to his feet.
Battle takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Cudi content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Battle gets back to half guard.
Cudi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Cudi drops an elbow to the side of Battle's head.
Cudi is taking a breather. Battle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Cudi missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Battle is trying to stand back up but Cudi is controlling him

Cudi is controlling the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Battle pushes Cudi off looking to stand but Cudi dives back in and keeps control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Battle misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Battle throws a left and a right that both miss

and Cudi counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Battle!
Cudi passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Battle!
You get the feeling that Battle really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Cudi content just to control the position here.
Battle is in a horrible position here. Cudi smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

We've been hearing that Cudi has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
A nice elbow there by Cudi.
Battle is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cudi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Battle taking shots to the head.
Battle wants to get back to his feet.
Battle looks winded!

Cudi controlling his opponent.
Battle really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Battle is looking to improve his position but Cudi isn't that keen on the idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cudi content just to control the position here.
Cudi seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Battle for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kid Cudi dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Cudi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Battle bucks up and tries to throw Cudi off but instead Cudi has got his back!
Cudi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Battle can do to turn this around?
Cudi just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Battle has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Cudi.
Cudi biding his time, looking for the opening.

Cudi is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Battle wants to escape the position.

Cudi is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
I would not like to be Battle right now.

Battle manages to escape to his feet.

Oooh a lovely combination from Battle sends Cudi down but not out. Battle dives into side control looking to finish.


Cudi is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cudi gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Oh Cudi is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Battle looking to isolate an arm here. Cudi doesn't see it coming and as Battle extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Battle!
