PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ruarc Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rekis's choice of entrance music: AC/DC - Thunderstruck. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ruarc Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harris rushes Rekis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Harris ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Harris no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Harris escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rekis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Harris wants to control but Rekis passes easily into half guard.
Harris is refusing to be controlled, as Rekis sits in half guard.
Rekis performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rekis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rekis works his foot free and advances to mount.
The referee warns Harris that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Harris is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rekis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Rekis wants to control the action but instead Harris gets a body lock and reverses into Rekis's guard! Nice work!
Harris is looking to work some ground and pound but Rekis has wrist control.
Rekis lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rekis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Harris is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rekis drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Harris dives on top into guard.

and Rekis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rekis.

Harris has momentary wrist control but Rekis slips an elbow through the middle.
Rekis connects with a couple of short punches.
Rekis postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Harris has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rekis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rekis's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rekis cracks Harris with a big right hand but Harris just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Rekis is looking to take a break and control but Harris is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rekis decides to stand up, so the ref orders Harris to his feet.
Rekis stuffs the takedown.
Rekis misses the jab.

Harris closes the distance and clinches.

Rekis gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The fighters are battling for position here. Harris manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Harris working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rekis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rekis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

John Rekis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Harris looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Rekis!
Rekis tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Harris presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Rekis felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Harris throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Harris lands a couple of good shots and Rekis has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Rekis is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Harris lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Rekis is taking damage to the body and head.

Harris is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Rekis is defending well though. Harris let's go of the attempt for now.

Rekis wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Harris's closed guard. He's half up but Harris has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Harris pivots and extends the arm, Rekis falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Harris! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ruarc Harris!
An intense looking Ruarc Harris took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'To all the women that we love best, we love em best when there undressed. And when there dead and long forgotten, we will dig em up and screw them rotten.'.
In defeat, John Rekis stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'll be back!!!'.
