Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Ellison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alec Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricky Ellison! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alec Johnson! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson tries for a takedown but Ellison circles away easily and Ellison counters with a straight right hand. Ellison stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ellison wants it to stay on the feet. Ellison tries to counter with a takedown but Johnson is quick to defend against it. Ricky Ellison seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ellison shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ellison was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Ellison keeps moving and retains side control. Johnson wants to control but Ellison postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson regains half guard. Johnson has his hands clasped together around Ellison's back. He's all about the action. Ellison is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Johnson wants to control but Ellison is keeping busy.
Johnson holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Ellison cracks Johnson with a right hand to the side of the head. Ellison is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Johnson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ellison sprawls well. Ellison wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet. Ricky Ellison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alec Johnson. Ellison bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Ellison is breathing heavily. Ellison fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Johnson has one of Ellison's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson wants to control but Ellison postures up. Johnson holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. Ellison working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Johnson fails with the takedown. Johnson fails with the takedown. Ellison jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The crowd cheers as Johnson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ellison doesn't seem phased though. Johnson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Johnson misses with a jab, cross combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Ellison dominated that round. That's time! Ellison's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Johnson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ellison defends it nicely. Johnson shoots for a takedown but Ellison saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Johnson swinging wildly here.
Johnson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown letting Ellison counter with a right hand. Ricky Ellison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alec Johnson. Johnson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ellison looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Johnson! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ellison throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Johnson is breathing heavily. Ellison tries to stand but Johnson is controlling his head. Ellison goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Johnson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Ellison's guard! Nice work there by Johnson!
That's one minute gone in the round. Ellison has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Johnson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Johnson prevents Ellison from breaking the clinch. Johnson has Ellison pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ellison manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Ellison misses with some punches.
Ellison tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Johnson's elbow. Ellison jumps guard.
Johnson advances position into side control! Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ellison keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson works to advance to full mount. Ellison defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Johnson swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alec Johnson! Alec Johnson decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
