Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Butch Larson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Grizzly Adams Jr! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Adams Jr is looking to clinch but Larson is avoiding it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Larson. Larson with a lazy takedown attempt letting Adams Jr counter with a right hand.
It looks like Butch Larson has been cut. Adams Jr misses with a few strikes there.
Larson looks for a takedown but Adams Jr sprawls well. Adams Jr is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Butch Larson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Larson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Adams Jr tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Larson is in Adams Jr's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Adams Jr can do anything to dispel that myth. Adams Jr wants to stand up but Larson is controlling him. Larson sitting in guard, not really doing much. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Larson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Adams Jr for as long as he can get away with. Larson stops Adams Jr from standing up. Larson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Adams Jr uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Adams Jr cracks Larson with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Larson looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Adams Jr finish him?
Adams Jr leaves Larson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Larson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Larson tries to score a body lock takedown but Adams Jr shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Larson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Adams Jr wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Larson's closed guard. He's half up but Larson has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Larson pivots and extends the arm, Adams Jr falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Larson! Well done that man!
