Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Augusto Azevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Soares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Azevedo comes to the cage accompanied by Welcome To The Jungle. Andre Soares will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Augusto Azevedo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andre Soares! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Azevedo moves forwards but Soares connects with a nice, crisp jab. We've been hearing reports that Azevedo has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Azevedo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Soares sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Azevedo somewhat. A little jabbing left from Soares on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Azevedo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Soares tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Azevedo is in Soares's guard. Soares is trying to control the position but Azevedo postures up. Soares is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Azevedo is aware though and is defending well. Soares keeping moving, preventing Azevedo from controlling successfully. Soares wants to sweep here but Azevedo controlling him for the moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Azevedo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Soares swivels though and keeps the full guard. Azevedo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Soares can't keep his opponent in guard - Azevedo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Soares looking for submissions off his back. Soares is looking to improve his position.
Soares told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Soares is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Soares looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Azevedo controlling the action here. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Azevedo is looking to advance position but Soares won't allow it. Azevedo seems to be working for a kimura but Soares defends the submission attempt. Soares is defending against the submission attempts here by Azevedo.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Soares is not content to let Azevedo control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Azevedo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Soares throws out the jab. Azevedo changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Azevedo looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Soares looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Soares looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Azevedo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Soares is keeping the position for now. Azevedo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Soares's guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Azevedo trying to control the action but Soares is working from the bottom. Azevedo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Soares is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Azevedo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Azevedo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Soares tries to get to full guard but Azevedo has control of the leg. Azevedo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Soares is just riding it out for now. Azevedo eventually gives up the hold. Azevedo stalling. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Azevedo is working for a submission of some sort.

Soares escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Azevedo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Azevedo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Soares is trying to control Azevedo's posture but Azevedo avoids it. Azevedo is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Soares can't do much from the bottom here. Azevedo wants to control but Soares is keeping him busy. Azevedo takes a little break here. Soares wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Azevedo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Soares sprawls well initially but Azevedo persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Azevedo looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Azevedo wants to control but Soares is keeping him busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Soares is trying to maintain the position but Azevedo is very close to passing his half guard. Azevedo controlling the pace. Azevedo is looking to take a break and control but Soares is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Azevedo wants to pass the guard but Soares is defending well. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Azevedo trying to control from half guard but Soares is working away.
