Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pete Rock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Lowery! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rock shoots in but Lowery avoids the takedown attempt easily. Lowery fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rock uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lowery.
Lowery gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Lowery is looking for a triangle but Rock pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lowery is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lowery decides to stand and escape the position. Lowery gets caught napping as Rock dives in and scores a takedown. Lowery manages to retain guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lowery throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Lowery is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rock defends well. Rock content to stall in guard here. Rock stands up from Lowery's guard - Rock perhaps looking for a knockout. Lowery bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rock's head backwards. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rock.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lowery looks to land a combination. Rock sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Lowery throws a sloppy body shot
and Rock counters by moving into the clinch. Rock drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lowery gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pete Rock. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rock breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rock tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lowery defends well and Rock ends up having to push Lowery into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Lowery swinging wildly here.
Rock misses with a series of wild punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rock shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Lowery tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Rock manages to move to mount!
Rock controlling the pace for now. Rock landing strikes, looking to finish! Rock controlling his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lowery working to try and regain half guard.
Rock postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lowery looks a forlorn figure.
Rock avoids the attempt from Lowery to control. Rock lands a nice shot to the head. Rock is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Lowery is surviving well by controlling Rock's body position as best he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Pete Rock will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Rock throws a nice looking combination but Lowery bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Lowery throws out a counter right but Rock avoids it with no problem. Lowery throws a series of punches but Rock avoids them all with ease. Rock half committed to a counter leg kick. Rock dodges the punch combination from Lowery.
A left and a right from Lowery both land. Nice combination.
It looks like Pete Rock has been cut. Lowery cracks Rock with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Nice uppercut there from Lowery. Rock clinches. Rock goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Rock is trying to pull guard but Lowery turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Rock is looking for a takedown. Lowery managing to block the knees to the body from Rock.
Lowery misses with a hook to the ribs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rock jumps guard.
Rock looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Lowery tries to stand but Rock is controlling from the bottom. Rock escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lowery gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Rock is looking for a triangle but Lowery pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rock looking to control.
Lowery wants to get up but he can't break Rock's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Lowery is fighting to break Rock's control of his arms but Rock is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Lowery would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Rock closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lowery circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pete Rock. That's going to take a lot out of him. Lowery lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rock has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rock shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lowery but Lowery pushes him off and we're back to square one. Rock swats away the attempt to clinch by Lowery. Lowery keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Mike Lowery is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Rock on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Rock gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Lowery. Lowery lands with an overhand left. A jab from Lowery does it's job there.
Rock is rocked! Lowery cracks Rock with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Rock tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Lowery pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Rock is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Lowery!
