PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pitt Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Anthony Pettis has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pitt Steel!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice straight punches there by Pettis. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Pettis.

A nice inside leg kick there by Pettis. That's going to slow Steel down.
Steel misses with a shot to the body
enabling Pettis to counter with a crisp jab.
Pettis tests Steel's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Pettis throws a combination. Steel tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Steel scores with a takedown into Pettis's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Steel told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Pettis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Steel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Pettis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steel defends well.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Steel.

Pettis is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

That was a close second round but I would say that Anthony Pettis will probably get the nod.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Pettis has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Steel finds it's way round the side to connect with Pettis's head.
Pitt Steel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anthony Pettis.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pettis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
