Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pitt Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Anthony Pettis has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Pettis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pitt Steel! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice straight punches there by Pettis. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Pettis. Pettis lands a right hook to the body.
A nice inside leg kick there by Pettis. That's going to slow Steel down. Steel misses with a shot to the body enabling Pettis to counter with a crisp jab. Pettis tests Steel's chin there with a solid looking shot. Pettis throws a combination. Steel tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Steel scores with a takedown into Pettis's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pettis keeping moving, preventing Steel from controlling successfully. Steel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Pettis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Steel is aware though and is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steel working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Steel trying to control the position from guard on top but Pettis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pettis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Steel working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pettis's head. Steel controlling from the top position. Pettis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Steel defends it easily. Steel working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Steel trying to control but Pettis is working from the bottom. Steel told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Pettis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Steel looking to sit in guard and control but Pettis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pettis is fighting to break Steel's control of his arms but Steel is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Pettis wants to stand and escape but instead Steel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Steel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Pettis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Steel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Steel avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pettis has momentary wrist control but Steel slips an elbow through the middle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Steel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Steel scoring with some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Steel postures up and lands a big shot to Pettis's brow. Pettis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steel defends well. Steel trying to control but Pettis is working from the bottom. Steel passes Pettis's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Steel is keen to just control but Pettis is a slippery customer. Steel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Steel working over Pettis with some ground and pound. Pettis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pettis swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pettis seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Steel throws a head kick but Pettis moves out of range.

Steel is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Good leg kick by Steel there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pettis is looking to score with low kicks. Steel throws a head kick that misses. Pitt Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Steel misses with an uppercut. Pettis saw that one coming. Steel scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Steel throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Steel misses the shot to the body. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Steel. Steel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Steel pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Pettis pivots, looking for a leg kick but Steel is out of range and Pettis settles back down. Steel throws a head kick but Pettis moves out of range.
Pettis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Steel. A little feinted left hand from Pettis on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Steel connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Pettis momentarily.

Pettis is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Steel on the wrong end of a nice hook. Steel misses with a head kick.

Anthony Pettis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Pettis fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Steel shoots in and drives through. Pettis sprawls well. An attempted straight right counter from Pettis misses the target. A slapping body kick lands there for Pettis. Steel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pettis was well out of range. Poor timing from Steel. Steel fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Pettis. Steel does a little dance to reset his feet. Steel steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Pettis. A jab from Steel misses. Pettis throws a hook but Steel blocks it. Steel follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Steel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Steel showed some decent athleticism there. Pettis has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Steel is on him like a limpet, forcing Pettis back against the cage. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Steel changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pettis fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Steel moves out of range of the leg kick from Pettis. Steel tries to clinch but Pettis moves out of range. Pettis was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Good exchange - Pettis coming out on top. Pettis throws a nice looking combination but Steel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Pettis throws a leg kick but Steel sees it coming and moves out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Anthony Pettis will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Pettis misses with an uppercut. Steel tries to score with a low kick but Pettis moves his leg out of the way. Pettis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Steel has closed the distance and engaged Pettis in a clinch.
Pettis is looking to break free of the clinch but Steel has double underhooks. Pettis breaks from the clinch.
Steel takes a swing at Pettis's ribcage but misses. Pettis fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Steel looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pettis throws a nice inside leg kick. A nice combination there by Pettis.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. A head kick misses from Steel. Steel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pettis looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Steel engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Steel working some strikes from top position. Steel postures up and lands a big shot to Pettis's brow. Steel sitting in guard, not really doing much. Steel working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Steel landing with the ground and pound. Pettis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Steel trying to control but Pettis is working from the bottom. Steel lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Pettis keeping moving, preventing Steel from controlling successfully. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Steel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pettis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Pettis content to control rather than advance. Steel tries to get to full guard but Pettis has control of the leg. Pettis wants to stand up but Steel has a hold of him and won't allow it. Steel is trying to get back to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Pettis wants to control but Steel is keeping him busy. Pettis is thwarting Steel's attempts to control the position. Pettis wants to take a breather but Steel is having none of it.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! A looping hook to the body misses from Pettis. Steel does a little dance to reset his feet. Pettis has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Steel finds it's way round the side to connect with Pettis's head. Pitt Steel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Anthony Pettis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Steel misses with a body kick.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anthony Pettis. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pettis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
