Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jean Labosky! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Andrei Zharkov! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Kavanagh and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Labosky lands with a straight right. Zharkov didn't see that one coming. Zharkov throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Labosky stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Zharkov throws out a powerful jab. Labosky slips a jab and a cross from Zharkov.
A nice leg kick lands there from Labosky. Zharkov lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Nice uppercut lands for Zharkov. That snapped Labosky's head back.
Zharkov takes one on the button. Zharkov throws a body shot but no joy. Labosky ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zharkov moves away. Labosky throws a right and a left that Zharkov avoids nicely. This has been an exciting period of action! Labosky throws a lazy uppercut
and Zharkov counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Zharkov. Zharkov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Zharkov prevents Labosky from getting back to his feet. Zharkov throws a big right hand that misses. Labosky wants to get back to his feet but Zharkov is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Zharkov loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zharkov lands a couple of digs. Zharkov postures up in Labosky's guard and throws a big left but Labosky blocks it. Zharkov with a flurry of punches that miss. Zharkov trying to control but Labosky is working from the bottom. Zharkov connects with a couple of short punches. Zharkov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Labosky works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Zharkov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Zharkov stops Labosky from standing up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Zharkov postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Labosky is looking to stand back up but Zharkov counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Labosky. Zharkov sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Labosky defending well though. Labosky is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at HardBody Fighting Camp, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zharkov is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Labosky is hurt! He's hurt bad - Zharkov fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Labosky from any more punishment! Congratulations to Zharkov! Great finish!
