Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Boris Donovan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Cesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Boris Donovan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paulo Cesar!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Ben Hemmingworth and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cesar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Donovan to the mat! Donovan manages to get full guard.
Donovan keeping full guard, as Cesar tries to pass.
Donovan is adopting a defensive guard.

Donovan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Donovan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cesar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cesar thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Donovan has control of Cesar's left arm, preventing Cesar from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Donovan is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cesar swings away with a body shot that misses

and Donovan counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Cesar pulls guard successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cesar controls Donovan momentarily but Donovan frees himself.

Cesar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Donovan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cesar is trying to keep Donovan in close.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Donovan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Cesar looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cesar has momentary wrist control but Donovan slips an elbow through the middle.

Donovan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cesar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Donovan has managed to get both his arms back between Cesar's legs - danger averted.
Donovan is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Donovan's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Donovan is looking to work some ground and pound but Cesar has wrist control.

Cesar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Donovan defends well.

Cesar is looking for a triangle but Donovan pushes his legs off easily.
Donovan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Cesar's head.

Cesar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Donovan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Donovan postures up and lands a big shot to Cesar's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Paulo Cesar will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Donovan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Cesar drives through with a takedown into Donovan's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Cesar is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Donovan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Donovan has escaped and now he's on top!

Donovan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cesar's head.
We've been informed that Cesar has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Donovan is working Cesar over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cesar had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Donovan defends it easily.

Donovan distracts Cesar with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Donovan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cesar's head.
Donovan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Cesar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Cesar is breathing heavily.

Cesar is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Donovan is aware though and is defending well.

Cesar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Boris Donovan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Donovan connects with a couple of short punches.

Donovan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cesar on the ground.

Cesar is still in real trouble! Can Donovan finish him?

Donovan arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Cesar's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
